Side Effects – Public Space Climate Action
This ‘Side Effects’ design for a flight of stairs in Beyoglu Istanbul improves Quality of Life in the City by intervening in public space. The Orange Ribbon on the side of the stairs includes local planting, a self supporting irrigation system and an installation that sprays mist onto the platforms, reducing urban heat islands and cooling down pedestrians climbing the hill. At night the benches and lighting included in Side Effect Ribbon offer safety, seating and social interaction. The design will be presented in a public event organized by Beyoglu Municipality and the Dutch Consulate Istanbul (corona permitting).
