Shelter for single retired man

Project type: Design and realisation planning
Commissioned by: private
Location: Ansfelden (AT)
Date: 2004

This small house for seasonal occupation is designed for a location that was flooded in 2002. Even though a repetition of this is hardly possible, the house is elevated. The compact design is composed by a narrow service zone and a main wing with saddleback roof; sliding and folding elements flexibly subdivide the plan. On three sides the house is closed towards the surrounding buildings. From the patio it opens up towards the landscape with a terrace that reaches between the tops of two nut trees. When the inhabitant is absent the terrace is lifted and the house is closed off. The bridge is up, the landlord gone. The construction out of wooden prefabricated elements is moveable if the owner might wish to reside on a different location. This is made visible by the handle in the ridge, a feature that is extra high to respond to the larger surrounding buildings.
